The Curse is Removed
The Curse is Removed

Brief author’s note:- The narrative up to this point has been taken from the log kept by Gul of House Kobra whilst captain of the Despair and from various memoirs and reminiscences of other members of the crew. Unfortunately material relating to the early period of their return to The Valley of the Great Sword is limited to a few obscure references in chronicles of the time. Of course, this was a dangerous time for the renegades and they were probably keeping a low profile so the lack of verifiable material of their actions is not surprising.

The facts gleaned from the few fragments of evidence available amount to this. The party travelled back to the Cronk village to get the God Curse removed from Gul. They encountered a group of Corflu Cultists, or so scholars surmise as Corflu was widely worshipped in the area at the time.  There is a ruined monastery in the area as well which adds weight to this view. Stories are also told of a Demon appearing at around the same period. They gained many a magic item and uncovered six books of The Illithid, but at a high cost. Both Gorlab and Berun were gravely hurt in a temple fire, apparently caused by their own Fireball spells and the cleric, Brun, was also injured. If it hadn’t been for the heroic actions of Haart, Gorlab and Berun might not have survived. Haart must have been a new recruit to the ranks as this is the first reference to him as part of the crew. Another newcomer, Bob the Barbarian, is also mentioned as aiding Brun. Zaen is rumoured to have fled, but this has not yet been proven conclusively. Gul does not seem to have played any great part in this chapter.

The present author has been unable to find any more information about this episode. Other scholars may have access to sources unavailable to the writer. It is for them to fill in the details. For those interested, several volumes of The Illithid are kept under lock and key in the University of Gar Undal
