15:04:10 Spaceport Battle RB v ONI |
The Maranos Conflict – Phase #2 Maranos Spaceport Lieutenant Voroshilov gave the order for his unit of Dragonovs to move towards the enemy. They were facing the ONI Corps and they all knew what that meant. All ears were listening for the sound of the zombie guns. As the name implies, they could change your comrades from heroes of the revolution to slobbering, inhuman beasts with one hit. At last they could see their objective. "There, that’s the control tower. Take that and the spaceport is ours. Forward, comrades, and keep your heads down.” Suddenly Voroshilov caught sight of an enemy tank rounding a building. "Son of a kulak,” he thought, "It’s one of their type 3’s.” It fired a maser strike and the lieutenant watched as a unit of Krasnye disappeared, leaving only a smouldering crater where they had stood. A Dotch Yaga and a Hetman appeared and engaged the ONI AFV. Voroshilov recognised the Hetman as that of the twins. They were the commanders for this mission. They were not the original Odin and Manon but copies born in the Gencol vats; just like himself and everyone else in this company. The Dragonovs continued forward, accompanied now by another Dragonov unit under Sergeant Mirov. The battle raged around them. Another enemy vehicle, this time an APC, raced across the battlefield straight into Mirov’s unit. Two died under the wheels of the APC and the rest withdrew a safe distance waiting for the vehicle to disgorge its passengers. The ramp came down and a horde of zombies charged out. There was fierce hand to hand fighting; the Dragonovs desperately trying to fend off the undead attackers. Voroshilov looked on in horror as the valiant Red Blok soldiers were overwhelmed. There was no doubt that they had become zombies themselves. The enemy then got back in the APC to seek out another target. Unfortunately for them they would not be finding any new victims. No sooner had the APC started moving than a salvo from the Dotch Yaga destroyed it and its passengers. Shortly after the APC blew up, the Hetman carrying the twins was also destroyed. Voroshilov now realised he was in command. His unit made it to the control tower and he took time out to appraise the situation. He knew he could hold the tower, but at what cost? Would there be enough troops to defend against the inevitable counter attack? He decided that discretion was the better part of valour and called a withdrawal. At his trial some months later he was accused of cowardice in the face of the enemy and was shot. Collectivist justice can be a right bummer at times. "So comrades come rally and the last fight let us face. The intersiderial unites the human race." |
