ohannes Karnak: is probably the first recorded example of an ‘Awakened’ being. Common in our own time, truly ‘Awakened’ people were few and far between in the past. They were either revered or reviled. In early times they occupied positions of high rank and were called shaman or medicine man. Next they were called prophets, sometimes mistrusted, but feared as the voice of the gods. As organised religion took over and people became urbanised they were accused of witchcraft and persecuted; Johannes Karnak is one such. Born in Central Europe sometime during the 12th Century, he became a scholar attending university and taking an interest in the occult. Details of his life are sketchy at best and it is not known exactly where he was born or where he studied. Possibly Germany. In any event, the authorities mistrusted him and he was forced to move to the more isolated areas of Eastern Europe. The uneducated and superstitious people of the area in which Karnak settled eventually turned against him and he was burnt at the stake as a heretic. He is known to us through his only two surviving books – The Book of Arcane Magic and The Book of Prophesies. They are very rare and are said to contain dangerous knowledge. Read them at your peril, if you can get hold of a copy that is.
