Just thought I'd start up a pointless debate on which system or setting is everyone's favourite. Either wargames or RPG's (or both). I must have too much time on my hands!

Mmmmm ... that's actually a toughy.

I personally like wargames for a quick fix, but luv RPG's for the long haul. My fav wargame for now is LotR's, as I was brought up on the books and later the movies to fire the imagination, and over a period of time collected the rules, figures and various suppliments which improve with each year. All these make the game more enjoyable ... just wish I could get the just of the rules 100% ... damn this monkey brain of mine!

As for RPG's ... well there u ... a more personal attachment to the character in that time & place. Does that sound crazy or have I'm been gaming to long! So you have to like being that character and where he/she is going within that era ... and as it's over a long period, hopefully if I survive longer than a few weeks, u become more attached.

Yeah ... a toughy ... but as usual I'll pick both!!! ... Walts (The undecide monkey brain!)

in short I enjoy Roleplaying games and wargames.

Roleplaying rules i'm not in a position to say as im not really experienced, but setting i can say what appeals to me. I have always had a great affinity with fantasy and science fiction/fantasy, therefore DnD, shadowrun, starwars, traveller etc all really appeal to me. But my short experience into RPGs has shown me that the genre, setting and mechanics are not really that important. Its the story and having fun that matters.

In regards to wargames i prefer skirmish level games, RoE and AT43 have been introduced to me through this club and i'm really impressed. however i still have fond memories of 40k even though i've not played in years.

To CB:
Aye , you have to much time on your hands...you didn't say what systems you have played and what you preferred ?

What RPGs etc .etc.?

I do all the stuff i am interested in. FoG Fantasy, Flintloque , OD&D AT-43.

The only thing i have that i never play is Modern Spearhead...cos no one else has Micro-moderns. (A Division surprised )

Though i have done it using epic 40k stuff.

I would like to play in a cyberpunk RPG...i have GMed a few campaigns at the club , but never played.

I do like star hero, cp2020 has a huge amount of resources specific to the sub genre. such as weapons, cybernetic upgrades, vehicles, etc all of which i would have to convert/create. all of which i dont have the experience for.

hopefully this means i can get started quicker

sorry to get off topic.

As I started the thread I feel entitled to go off topic - did you win the CP book?

As for my own faves, I haven't played all that many wargames but still think Warmachine is great but lots of others run it close, like AT, LOTR etc. I really enjoyed the house rules for Flintloque too.

RPGs are more difficult, there's so many great ones. I'll always have a soft spot for WFRP, Judge Dredd, Paranoia and Dragon Warriors, because that's where I cut my teeth. Rolemaster probably has the best combat system, if you have a spare 3 hours to fight one orc and a supercomputer to work out the calcs...

Well done bigG! Let the Cyberpunk games begin!!!!

One of the things I've been doing for the Judge Dredd RPG is checking out all the forums. This gives me an good idea of the period, the character traits and all the lovely baddies out there to add into my scenario. I've managed to source a ton of 2000AD - Judge Dredd history websites, which give me a perfect scope for when to include the players to the JD era. There's some really cool sites out there for JD stuff in general which I can apply to the RPG ... sorted!

As a suggestion, u should look about for scenario's created by other GM's of CP, that way u'll have a better understanding of how to create ur own and how to make one last the day, or usually longer.

Walts.

Cool! I'm looking forward to buying some black market cybernetic implants. I quite fancy a pair of telescopic night vision eyes for sniping bad guys...
