What if we have a more open ended campaign....where each player can take a turn at being the GM ( as suggested by P1FX ) ?

Taurus iv is a planet.

Remember the Star Vikings idea ?

400 years ago Taurus IV was a colony of only 100,000 population.
A frontier world, part of the Stellar Empire of Mankind.
A computer virus swept through the Empire, turning all AIs against the human population.
The Empire crashed and burned.

Taurus IV has had no contact since "the Crash."
The High Council of Taurus IV have invested in a space program in order to find out what has happened in the last 400 years.

The PCs are the crew of the Starship Intrepid.
Their mission to seek out the remnants of the Empire, establish contact with other survivors, and to boldly go where no man has gone before....etc etc.

What do you think ?

You seem to have everything under control. The merits/flaws might get a bit out of hand but I think if you follow the ones in Shadowrun (not slavishly) or at least keep things at about that amount it should be OK. S.P.E.A.R. is a really inventive name - can't out do that! wink

Aye, I'm sure Jamie suggested a limit on Sunday. Think it was 6 points but not 100% on that.....

Cheers. smile

Question.....Should the crew be trained in the S.P.E.A.R. academy or be recruited from established institutions on Taurus IV ?
( or both ???? )

I put some suggestions beside the professions on the Original Post.

ie... Security could be recruited from the 1st Space Marine battalion. Scientists from Corporate Arcologies etc...

Also i put Fieldcraft back into the Security skill set, as the Combat system will need a defence roll in order to work right.

Yes, I saw that. I think the crew would have been trained at the SPEAR academy. But then again they may just have been trained in space flight at the academy. It doesn't really matter but it's interesting wacko .

On another related issue; should the crew, indeed the whole culture, have an inbuilt phobia against robots/AIs and other related cyberthingies. After all didn't the empire fall prey to such things?

Aye............... thats a good one !

Their culture would have a phobia about Robots/A.I.

There might even be laws against creating such devices ?

But do we really need it ?

There could be an NPC permanent communication specialist so the rest of the crew can do stuff! If we need a translator one of the players with languages could take over. Or we have our own version of Hoshi from "Enterprise".

I was looking at the world generation system for Traveller. A bit longwinded if followed to the letter, but we can just pick and choose rather than randomly generating planets. If the DM knows what he wants the adventure to be he can just make the environment that fits. It does say in the book that it's a trigger for imagination rather than a "set in stone" system.

Also we need to keep a directory of worlds so we know what's what. I think zellak mentioned that at the last discussion. If everyone involved is going to have a go at DMing we need to try and be consistent. It might be just a game, but it has to have its own internal logic or it won't work.
