Roll for Strength / Intellect / Agility / Willpower / Charisma / Magic.... 1d6+1 for each.

Roll for combat skills; Sword / Spear / Javelin / Grappling / Bow / Shield / Dodge / Parry....roll 3d6 for each skill.

Calculate ;

Perception Roll = Intellect x 2 + Experience.
........Craft Roll = Intellect + Agility + Experience.
Knowledge Roll = Intellect + Willpower + Experience.
Toughness Roll = Strength + Willpower + Experience.
Persuasion Roll = Intellect + Charisma + Experience.
.......Agility Roll = Agility x 2 + Experience.
.....Oratory Roll = Charisma x 2 + Experience.
.....Sorcery Roll = Magic + Experience.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Magic : 2 = Zeus / 3 = Hades / 4 = Athena / 5 = Poseidon / 6 = Hermes / 7 = Hera

Zeus ; Runemagic.

Hades ; Necromancy.

Athena ; Combat. ( Sword +2d6 bonus )

Poseidon ; Seafaring ( Spear or Trident +2d6 bonus )

Hermes ; Trickery ( Dodge +2d6 bonus )

Hera ; Healing. ( Shield +2d6 bonus )

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Character.......... roll 2D20

Roll on this table twice, and select which is Nature and Demeanor. (if you roll the same one twice then choose a different one)

1) Architect; create something of lasting value, leave a legacy.

2) Gallant; all round heroic type.

3) Mediator; keep the peace within the group.

4) Survivor; survive, even at the expense of others.

5) Autocrat; seeks power and control over others.

15) Judge; lawful.

16) Bravo; a bully.

17) Curmudgeon; everything is against you, nothing ever works out.

18) Caregiver; is mindful of others.

19) Competitor; always strive to be the best.

20) Poltroon; never approach a problem head on, try to find a way round it.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Combat

Each character or monster activates when its card is turned.
The deck has a card for each player and monster.

Attacking = roll less than or equal to skill to hit. Roll 1d20
Defender = roll less than or equal to Shield or Dodge skill to save. Roll 1d20

(note ; this gives a combat system comparable with Runequest)

Damage ; Roll location die and 1d8 (Attackers Strength 7+ = +1 / Attackers Strength 2 = -1 )

7+ = heavy damage ...Critical wound
2 to 6 = solid hit.....wounded.
1 = just a nick.

Target now makes a Toughness roll, (only PCs and special NPCs and some Monsters get this roll !)
Location has = Leather armour +3 / metal armour +6

A pass results in the character reducing the wound by one level.
Failure results in the full damage.

Critical wound to Head, Chest or Abdomen, target is disabled. (lesser mortals will be slain)
Critical wound to leg or foot , fall over, can only crawl. All combat skills at -6.
Critical wound to arm or hand, cannot use limb, willpower check to stay in the fight or retreat. All combat skills at -6.

Wound to Head, Chest or Abdomen, pass toughness roll to stay in the fight. All combat skills at -6.
Wound to Limb, target makes Toughness check to still use limb. All combat skills at -3.

Experience = Take a note of each skill successful during the adventure. Roll higher than current skill on 1d20 to increase skill by 1.(as Runequest)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Characters father or family connections ( roll 1d8 ) ;

8 / a Hero (start with 6 wargear, 1 may be magic if a backstory is written)

7 / a Senator (start with 5 wargear )

6 / a High Priest (start with 4 wargear )

5 / city craftsman (start with 4 wargear )

4 / village farmer (start with 3 wargear )

3 / a fisherman (start with 3 wargear )

2 / an ex-slave (start with 2 wargear )

1 / a criminal (start with 1 wargear )

When characters have been rolled, players can add a backstory, with special advantages and disadvantages they can think up.
( By gamesmaster's discretion dry )

The concensus of opinion of those asked on Sunday, would prefer to use the following background.....

The characters are citizens of a small city state ( Praxis) located on an island.
No one has visited the island in 150 years, so the Senate decides to have a ship built and asks for volunteers to unravel the mystery.

wacko I take it that "Nature" is what the character is really like and "Demeanour" is how he presents himself to the world - or am I missing the point? wink

Cool.... and thanks for the Rep. smile

Could someone print off the first post on this thread and bring it......its all the rules we need. wink

A note about magic.

Whichever god the character worships.....that character can ask for aid (spells) concerning aspects lying within the god's domain.

Zeus ; magic items / Runemagic* / lightning bolts / Eagle / Bull

Hades ; Necromancy, raising the dead / speak with the dead / precious metals / Raven *

Athena ; combat (supernatural fighting abilities ) / handicrafts / wisdom / Owl

Poseidon ; Seafaring / earthquakes / Horse / Dolphin.

Hermes ; illusions / trickery / trading / athletics / Ram

Hera ; Healing / Childbirth / Marriage / Lion

* Not part of Greek Mythology.

Sure is biggrin ....only got Che and Morgoth for certain at this point in time.

Its going to be a role-playing game, where you play the part of a character in the story.
Tied to the personality traits, Nature/Demeanor and Drive.

Still working on Drives.......... (Glory/Political Power/Wealth/Magic/True Love/Knowledge is all i have at the moment.)

So a bit of a different style of game.......

How about Revenge, Conscience (paying for a bad thing done to someone), Self worth (proving you're as good as anyone else) ? The first two seem to be big themes in Greek myth and plays as far as I recall. Hope this is helpful biggrin

PS I am going to have a go at rolling a character. wink

Revenge is a good one !

"Conscience" might really be "penitence" or "contrition" for something he/she done ?

Drives are for what the character wants.

"Travel" might be a good one to.

Let us know how you got on, and any problems with the CharGen design.

(remember if you make up a backstory you can add advantages/disadvantages/free stuff for the character.)

If you put it on here and dont want to play it....then i can use it as an NPC. biggrin

I'm having a problem relating this to a Hero touched by the Gods.......

Maybe, "Self-Enlightenment" ???

DEMON : " When next we meet, i shall tear you limb from limb...there will be no escape. "

Hero: " You bring balloon animals and i'll hire a clown..... we can make it a regular party. "

This is a tricky one. We need to discuss this face to face and get some ideas from the others. I was thinking along the lines of someone who thinks he has to prove himself rather than someone "touched by the gods" wacko It's a bit fuzzy. Anyhoo you only need one more motivation and a 10D roll will fix it.

Nice ! ( though the name is a bit suspect. wink )

Heavy guy, looks good.....Spear 15 and Dodge 15 he can kill most normal guys. So that looks right.

Normals will have 2d6 skills + experience.

Might as well make the wargear metal ?

The Toughness roll adds the type of armour on the location (metal +6 ) to the toughness.
So if Xerox gets hit in the chest he would save on an 18 or less on 1d20 to downgrade a wound to a nick/bruise.

Guessing you have picked "travel" as his "Drive" ?

Ah well, missed another campaign, however short!

Any other ideas for an easy-to-run RPG? ... Walts

Lol note books full of them! But theres always a loose campaign of say space opera themed games done with the Traveller system say, like a loose collection of dan dare comics in a sense. Would be easier for players to drift in and out of and to write and run using different DM's than a more interconnected detailed campaign would be.
