Thanks to everyone for the games today. We all seem to be getting the hang of the rules.

Can I suggest a tourney at some point in the future, something along the lines of the KoW one we had recently.

Of course I know your name, it's your face I can't remember - Parahandy

Oh dear - could I suggest you try crawling before you walk.

To be good at Saga takes Ages (Ok borrowed from Sega). tongue

The game is good enough - why tournament? or Campaign?

You can play a few games in an afternoon.

I just like to play - a game at a time. Enjoy it and move on.

All I can say long protracted campaigns -WWII Rapid Fire, ACW Fire and Fury, Bloodbowl, Frost Bite At43 all end up being a PAIN!! They do not benefit the club or morale!!

Only the one day Kings of War was fun.

But getting your head around the battleboard in Saga takes time, and a lot of luck!!

You will need several games under your belt before TOURNAMENTs!!

I'm guessing that's what Banksi was suggesting, that way, like the KoW tourney, eight or more players have a load of games on the day against each other to be proclaimed bb2 "King of the Northern Warlords!" bb

That's what I would like to see, to get a load of games in verse a load of diff players.

That be true, Lord Rossey!

Having had a couple of games verse Byzantine Tom tonight, I can see the various subtleties of the game, but even understanding the basics means little. During one turn I done more damage with 6 levy archers than 8 warriors, so regardless of how well I know the game and what my faction could do ... the gods of the dice decided my fate! shok

Yeah, that's probably true. I used the Scots tonight ... need to check out the other factions to see if any others catch my eye.

SO, who's up for whipping my ass surprised ... 9th June ... "I'm free!" ... Walts

To be fair, most of the problems with AT-43 campaigns up til now have been with the poorly written Frostbite victory conditions.

Or new players misinterpretations of the rules.

The last minicampaign we played ran without an Umpire quite successfully.

Campaigns are not for players who always expect a fair chance of winning.

Sometimes, just like real life, you get handed the shit end of the stick.

And you must rise to the challenge, not start whining "thats not fair, he's got more points than me".

Campaigns are not for wimps.

........Club morale ????

Is that a 2d6 roll ?

Well not everybody has your toughness zellak - or love the DARK SIDE - Lord Darkone!! biggrin And I have had several people saying they were going to chuck it in going to the club!! Because campaigns went bad in the 10+ years I have been at the club I have seen some of them cuck it in - not to been seen again. But your are right even when the rules are clear and you have a great setup the dice on the day can just go against you. Most people can take this.
You know the call " Well anything but a 1" .. oops surprised wacko while your opponent biggrin :D biggrin

Or a battle that could end your campaign because rules misread / misinterpreted / other rule system referenced - this is what I get the most compaints about. And I would say annoys me the most about campaigns. I have never like rules that required to read the BIBLE RULE BOOK!! Or play games that require "page 206, paragrah 4, section C states .... BLAH BLAH BLAH" which then requires 30mins loud discussion before each dice is rolled!!! sad

As we find each week even what we think are a simple set of rules - Saga / Kings of War can change as new players read more thoroughly or new circumstances occur. So I am saying tread carefully. As zellak said the next AT43 went a lot better (after nearly a year of pain - it truly was Frostbite biggrin ). We have had a vast increase on the numbers joining our club, and other clubs have put up the idea of cross-club challenge. So I see this could be more common in the future.

BUT FOR ME IT NEEDS TO BE FUN, FUN, FUN!!

On a Morale point, I've noticed that since we haven't been playing campaigns that peace has almost broken out across the board... Lots of happy gamers around!!!

Hopefully, we have went through the pain barrier with AT-43, and are now at a point where there will be no surprises ( rules-wise anyway !!!).

I realise campaigns are not for everyone, but to me they are a real test of skill and character.

So will always be the exciting side of wargaming for me.

One-off games mean very little to me, they are forgettable, as the Italian SAS say...."Who cares who wins !"
