Battle of Nach Stalingrad The Railway scenario 5, Little Wars TV

The terrain map was designed by Colin on Paint platform (uploading the scenario map and removing the grid and deployment areas) and printed on a vinyl fabric as 4’ x 4’ Flag from Temu. Terrain map basic layout courtesy of Little Wars TV – Nach Stalingrad scenario with the FFofT34s rule adaption.
I find with 10mm figures the 2D maps are the easiest to manoeuvre bases. Getting them printed on Temu reduces the cost considerably and allows for quick setup and easy storage. I have passed the other map designs to Little Wars TV for you to get a free JPEG download (I have a #5 The railway done like the others).
The specific Scenario details can be found in the Nach Stalingrad free download off of Little Wars TV. In a quick synopsis the Russian have 8 turns to get the Germans out of two villages and stop the Germans getting to one of the north Road exits (shown by the dashed red arrow). The German force intends to keep at least two villages and capture a road exit (shown by the black arrows). Victory condition points marked with green stars.

As we were playing this game in the evening 7pm to 10pm, and this was a school night. We had to call a halt to the game. With the loss of the Russian armour the 13th tank Brigade it was felt they did not have enough power to take any of the 3 villages, and the German reserves Gruppe Hunersdorff have a Northern road exit. The Gruppe Hunersdorff tank Brigade would smash down the Russian right flank in the next three turns.
In post battle analysis this was a scenario where the Russians had it all to do. They would win by taking 2 villages. So they should have been more aggressive. Shestakov should have been an easy hit, the Russian infantry were far too slow at getting forward to either take the other 2 villages. The Russian 13th holding back and getting hit hard with the Gruppe Hunersdorff tank Brigade was a miscalculation, all hopes on quick kills with the Russians on overwatch fire which didn’t work out.
We decided to call it a Major German victory. Colin had accrued 61 km so far and gets +5D6 and the bonus objective +2D6 to roll. He manages to get 19km. Giving him the 80km to pass the scenario. This gets the Germans that they reach the Myshkova River ahead of schedule, before the arrival of 2nd Guards Army. A small window of time exists for Manstein to give the signal for Paulus to breakout.
End of Game
Note: We did give the Germans a +5km for the Probe without playing it, and we have not tried the #3 the Bridgehead. Plus Mark has access to the bonus scenario #6 The Farm. So we are not quite done yet. Next is the Farm, then a try at the Bridgehead. |
