Battle of Nach Stalingrad The Graveyard Scenario 2, Little Wars TV

The terrain map was designed on Inkarnate and printed on a vinyl fabric as 6’ x 4’ Banner from Temu. Terrain map basic layout courtesy of Little Wars TV – Nach Stalingrad scenario with the FFofT34s rule adaption.
I find with 10mm figures the 2D maps are the easiest to manoeuvre bases. Getting them printed on Temu reduces the cost considerably and allows for quick setup and easy storage. I have passed this and the other map designs to Little Wars TV for you to get a free JPEG download.
The specific Scenario details can be found in the Nach Stalingrad free download off of Little Wars TV. In a quick synopsis the Russians have 12 turns to clear the town Verkhne Kumsky, and get to the Southern road exit to Saliyeevsky (shown by the red arrows). The German force intends to stop this, destroy all Russian armour and can be HIDDEN deployment at the start West and South of the Russian deployment > 6” away.
This was the second game our weekend of campaigning, to get 2 scenarios done on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Colin and Mark alternating as German or Umpire, Simon Russian, me as Umpire / Russian advisor.

With still 6 turns to complete we had to make a decision on the possible outcomes. The Germans still had half their tanks, the infantry and artillery. The Russians had about half of the 235 tank Brigade left – still dangerous with the KV-8s. But neither side had the upper hand with Airstrikes. Our feeling that the Russians would hunt down the remaining open Panzer IIIs to get access to the South Road. But with the Balkas between them a good chance this would take 3 to 4 turns. Leaving it impossible to clear out the town. Or impossible for the Germans to destroy all of the Russian armour!
So we compromised with a Minor German victory.
End of Game
The German players Mark and Colin laid on the effective ambush attack on the Russian forces to take them out on side armour attacks or on QC tests at 6s, and unsurprisingly they fail! Losing a lot of the T34 the tanks so early on was a big loss to the Russians. The Airstrikes were difficult to call in and not always dangerous when hitting a target, as there was no other off table artillery. The Germans get 10km & 2D6 to advance the distance track. They roll 18km, So have 46km with the Probe bonus.
We had the game setup and played between 3pm and 7pm. Then stopped for a dinner.
What Next? Well the scenario reads
“If a Minor German victory is scored, the German player may choose to continue to Scenario #3 or skip to #4.”
After some deliberation the German players decide to skip # 3 The Bridgehead and go straight to #4 The Maelstrom. So that is our Sunday scenario. |
